MARKERS FOR MINDFULNESS

In January 2020 Markers for Mindfulness was launched and has been encouraging the local community to recycle unwanted items such as pens and pencils, glue sticks, notebooks, whiteboard markers etc all to be sent out to primary schools most affected by government funding cuts. By providing underfunded schools with basics Daniel, who after the loss of his best friend in 2014, hoped to help the schools free up a small amount of budget to be used for student mental well-being and support, but also take the opportunity to raise the important issue of youth mental health with the schools and students.

At Edgar Street we will be playing our part on these 5 home games. If you have any spare stationary, bring it to these matches where there will be designated drop off points.

In 2019, after the loss of his best friend, Daniel decided to take his grief and channel it, to give back and make a change for good. He ran a 5k obstacle colour run in May 2019 raising £430 for the PICU at the hospital who cared for his friend. Daniel then spent the summer planning, holding cake sales & a raffle to raise money for mental health training in his school.

He raised an amazing £1,500. This money has been used by the school to train over 40 members of staff in mental health first aid. This has been a great benefit to not only students but the staff themselves.

To date over 60 large boxes of supplies have been sent to schools all over Oxfordshire and areas of the UK most in need. Over 200 individual students have been provided with full pencil cases and 34 students provided with new school bags and equipment to help them on their education journey. Over £20,000 worth of equipment and essentials have been put to good use.  We believe if you meet the basic needs of a child, it is through this you can unlock the potential for that day, for the rest of the school year and their whole lives.

Mental health continues to be an issue and the need for greater understanding and support for student and staff mental well-being is more important than ever.

Markers for Mindfulness continues to raise money and awareness for student mental well-being and want to reach as many schools across the UK as it can.   We want to encourage other local communities to get involved, donate, and recycle unwanted items so they can be put to good use in schools in areas all across the UK.

Markers for Mindfulness is a local project aiming to raise awareness and support for youth mental health. Whilst looking to support teachers, schools, groups, and individual students by collecting and distributing equipment and essentials.

By providing schools and groups with equipment and essential supplies, it can help them with budgeting issues and, hopefully, allow them to help support students. For individual students, having all the basics you need for the school day and complete work at home can make a big difference to their mental health.

We can make use of most stationery items, new and used such as:

  • Pens – biro and colouring
  • Pencils – HB and colouring
