Scarborough Chair Trevor Bull meets HUST Bulls
HUST Board members were invited to join the Valley Bar Seadogs in the Oxford Arms prior to the Scarborough match.
Chair Richard Tomkins and Vice Chair Justin Radcliffe joined Simon Wright, Steve Alexander and Jo Harrison in welcoming the visitors.
Valley Bar Seadogs (VBS) was born out of two fans in a pub saying “We could run Scarborough away travel better..” And they did! Proving themselves so adept at the process that the 100% fan owned Football Club was happy to endorse their activities.
The 11 person VBS committee finds sponsors for their coaches to reduce costs and have a long list of pick-ups across East Yorkshire. Their home pub normally offers free breakfast before departure while the committee always persuade a pub near the away club content to offer free food. The Oxford Arms, delighted with extra custom in January offered chip butties. In return, they were given a presentation VBS pennant, badges and bespoke pens.
VBS are also adept at fundraising, raising ten of thousands for their Club while also supporting local junior teams. The formula is clearly successful and popular with members. So pleasing to see the Scarborough FC Board take time out of a busy day to spend time with their supporters. With Trevor Bull, being their Chair, in much demand for pictures.
Interaction time for HUST members was sadly limited due to other duties. Promises were made to meet again next season. Our visitors were charming and a reminder what football ought to be about.
