JOHN MOTSON | Tribute from HUST Chairman

HUST chairman, Richard Tomkins says “To this day I always think of John Motson and Ricky George travelling up to Hereford in Ricky’s car. John revealed later he was just a young lad who didn’t own a car! He wanted to find out about the Hereford team. The Newcastle team by contrast were household names. It was a mark of John’s professionalism that stood him well for the rest of his career.

He always had a turn of phrase and it started with our Hereford United v Newcastle United commentary. I was there, it was an exciting match. John made it even more exciting on BBCTV Match of the Day that Saturday evening.

In years to come John Motson became part of our Edgar Street family. We all shed a tear and, today, Ron Radford will surely be welcoming John home.”
