Rallying Call from HUST Chairman

In a radio interview broadcast on BBC Hereford & Worcester this morning, the HUST chairman Chris Williams issued a rallying call to supporters.

He insisted one of the best ways fans could help the club clear an initial HMRC debt target of £78,000 was to attend the Skrill Premier home match against Grimsby Town at Edgar Street on Saturday.

“We’ve got to get money into the club that’s the priority. This will instantly generate a lot of income for the football club especially if supporters can persuade a friend to come along to the match on Saturday as well.”

“The target is to have the biggest attendance we’ve had all season.

“If we can beat that then it will provide significant income for the club.

“So bring your wife, bring your friends, bring your husband. Go into high town before the game, bring anybody!”

Williams urged supporters not to give up on the club.

“Football is about passion, pride, and all those things. When we went to Leicester for the Conference play-off final there were 12,000 people supporting Hereford United.

“Those 12,000 people were willing to go out of their way to support the club then, and they are the same people we need to call on now, those irregular supporters if you like, not the 1,500 dedicated supporters who go every week no matter what.”

Williams also revealed progress had been made towards the setting up a ‘Solidarity Fund’ to assist Hereford United players and staff through the period of financial hardship they are currently enduring.

“One of things that came out of our joint HUST/HUISA meeting on Monday night was the plight of the players so we’ve started a solidarity campaign so Hereford United supporters can dedicate money to help them in these difficult times.”
